Legs Legs Legs? – Kick Start

In the 2025 Summer Learning Journey in LS2, we worked on a project where we had to make a new leg for an elephant named Mosha. Mosha needed a new leg because her actual leg was broken or damaged. Our task was to create and design a custom-made leg specifically for Mosha. We focused on making the new leg fit perfectly and be comfortable for him, so we designed a special cast or support that would help him move better and feel better. We paid attention to the details and drawings on the leg to ensure it was just right for Mosha’s needs. This project helped us learn how to design supports and understand what animals might need when they are injured or have a disability.

  1. Kia ora Fern!

It is wonderful to see your Summer Learning Journey post from Panmure Bridge School! You have done a great job explaining the project you worked on in LS2 to help Mosha the elephant.

I was very impressed by your thoughtful approach to this task:

You focused on making a leg that would “fit perfectly” and be comfortable so Mosha could move and feel better.

It’s great that you paid such close attention to the drawings and details to ensure it met Mosha’s specific needs.

This project clearly helped you understand what animals might need when they have a disability or injury.

Since you are a Year 7 student who loves Art, I found your description of your sketching process very interesting. You mentioned you like to sketch with a pencil and use warm colours. Did you decide to use any of those warm colours on your custom design for Mosha’s leg?

Keep up the fantastic blogging and creative thinking!

    Ngā mihi,

  2. Your post reflects great thought behind your design. I guess there are two opposite options that you can take with this design. One, make the design a stand out feature with bright colours and patterns or two do what you created and have the leg blend in, a more subtle design.
Both can be right. Well done Fern
